Our trusted partner SILAB used its 15 years of expertise in biotechnology to develop the next anti-pigmentation innovation, LIGHTSKIN®. A natural brightening active ingredient to improve the uniformity of the skin tone, it attenuates the appearance of spots and revives complexion radiance.

This is achieved by its exclusive active fraction of sulfur-containing peptides, known for their transversal capacity to limit melanogenesis, which leads to limited tyrosinase activity and melanin production, as well as limited expression of pro-pigmenting receptors in specific contexts such as pollution or glycation. LIGHTSKIN® has comparable cosmetic benefits to vitamin C (ascorbyl glucoside), whilst being a very stable and easy-to-formulate brightening solution.

SILAB focussed on a raw material that was a natural source of sulphur-containing molecules, and found that the metabolism of a specific yeast, Ogataea siamensis, was found to be capable of naturally producing sulphur-containing molecules. SILAB developed a unique bioguiding process to specifically stimulate these molecules of interest, producing twice the amount of sulphur-containing peptides, thus doubling the depigmenting action of LIGHTSKIN®.

Efficacy of LIGHTSKIN®

To determine the efficacy of LIGHTSKIN®, SILAB conducted tests on a Caucasian panel and an Asian panel of volunteers, all specifically selected for the presence of spots and their exposition to pro-pigmenting contexts (glycation or pollution). The tests were down at 2.5% in emulsion, versus a placebo formula.

Amongst its effects, LIGHTSKIN® was proven to reduce the appearance of spots across both the Asian and Caucasian panels by up to 10% compared to the placebo. More than a brightening or an anti-spot solution, it also decreases the colour difference between a pigmented and a non-pigmented zone, for a more even skin tone. LIGHTSKIN® was also proven to have a reviving effect on complexion radiance, measured by the quantity of oxidized proteins visible through fluorescent labelling. Complexion radiance was also assessed by trained evaluators and dermatologists to be more positive overall.
