Jennifer's Cosmetics Trend Report: June 2016

(Posted on 06/06/16)

Hello and welcome to this month's edition of Trends!

Say Hello To Sexy Legs is a collection of three colouring and contouring products to define bare legs this summer. Tinted Glow Gel is essentially a wash off tanning gel that provides a base colour; Illuminating Fluid is a highlighting cream with added shimmer that is applied to the fronts of legs to elongate their appearance; Body Contour Stick is the darkest of the products and is applied to the natural muscle lines in the legs to create the appearance of more toned pins.

Cornelius can help: We have a wide portfolio of pearl pigments to create bronzed effects as well as highlighting and defining shades. To sculpt legs the Silab active Biosculptine could be added. The active, derived from prunella and celosia plants has a double slenderising effect, inhibiting the adipocytar differentiation and stimulating the lipolytic activities of adipocytes.

New Barry M Coconut Infusion Nail Paintscontain a blend of coconut water and coconut oil, plus the strengthening benefits of vitamins B and C which are said to gently hydrate and nourish the nail. The finish is smooth with a gel-like gloss that is available in nine shades including FlamingoBikiniSurfboard and Skinny Dip.

This is a new and interesting use for the still hugely popular raw material that is coconut oil. Another new coconut product to hit the shelves is Palmer's Coconut Oil Hand Cream. The brand is synominous with cocoa butter - the fact that it has used coconut shows what a huge seller this raw material is right now.

Cornelius can help: Botanica has developed an interesting coconut water distillate that is obtained using a gentle distillation method and will boost formulas with botanical waters. Additionally, we supply coconut oil from Olvea. Please contact your Cornelius rep for more details.

Lipsticks with added beauty benefits are well and truly mainstream now. The Telegraph's Emma Gunavardhana did a recent round-up of the top 10 products to protect lips from the elements. These included Burt's Bees Lip Crayon with shea butter, kendi and jojoba oils for added nourishment; Tom Ford's Lips & Boys Lip Colour with soja seed extract, Brazillian murumuru and chamomila flower oil; Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick with vitamin E rich avocado oil feels like a protective balm but provides a long-lasting wet-look shine; Rimmel's Moisture Lock Renew contains vitamins A,C and E for anti-ageing and anti-oxidant protection.

Continuing the theme of lipsticks with benefits, YSL and Dior both have products with LMW sodium hyaluronate available. This active deeply penetrates to provide moisture, improving the appearance of fine lines and creating a fuller, plumper pout.

Cornelius can help: We supply a wide range of nourishing oils and butters which are ideal for adding to lipstick formulations; RetiSTAR is a blend of vitamins A, C and E in a caprylic/capric tiglyceride base, making it easy to drop into anhydrous formulations; and Hyacolor, a grade of sodium hyaluronate supplied in an oil carrier, making it perfect to add easily to anhydrous systems such as lipsticks and balms.

Korean inspired foundation soaked sponges have moved from novel to everyday now that some big brands have jumped on this beauty trend.

The first we noticed was at the start of the year in the form of Pür Minerals (M&S) Air Perfection Compact Cushion Foundation which comes in four shades and contains vitamin E and Brazilian babassu oil. L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushioncomes in a selection of colours for skin ranging from pale to very dark. The luminous formulation can easily be layered to custom build your own coverage needs. Lancome's Miracle Cushion Foundation comes in a similar selection of shades and also cites buildable colour as a key selling point.

Cornelius can help: We have experience of making colour cosmetic sponge formulations which can be viewed as part of our Textures kit. Please speak to your Cornelius rep for further details.

Nutricoa is a new fortified chocolate snack with health or beauty benefits. The product is aimed at women and comes in two variants: fortified with collagen or with vitamins. The daily portion is 15g which equals 90 cals and is made with low bitterness Colombian cocoa beans and further sweetened with honey.

This is an interesting new addition to the selection of beauty from within products in the market and is a good fit for the growing Wellbeing trend.

Cornelius can help: We supply encapsulated ascorbic acid 70%. This grade of Vitamin C is easy to formulate with and is ideal for incorporating into a fortified chocolate product. We also supply Erylite Stevia, a natural sweetener to counteract bitter flavours. Contact our Health & Nutrition team for further information.

Garnier's Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Watercontains cleansing micelles as well as a layer of argan oil. It is being marketed as nourishing for dry and sensitive skins and as a remover for water-proof make-up.

Cornelius can help: Our exciting new kit based on watery formulations contains a very effective Lavender Cleansing Water which effectively removes mascara with just 1% Plantacare 2000 UP.

Garnier's Ultimate Blends Delicate Oat is fortified with protein-rich ingredients: antioxidant-packed oat milk and rice cream. The formula is gentle and soothing on sensitive and itchy scalps whilst leaving hair feeling protected and soft. A shampoo, conditioner and heat protection milk are available.
