Cornelius Principal BASF Delivers Sustainable Palm Oil Ahead Of Schedule
(Posted on 11/12/18)
Leading Cornelius' principal, BASF, has rolled out its ‘Mass Balance’ (MB) sustainable palm oil over a year ahead of schedule.
BASF switching approximately 330 palm-based products to MB globally, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable palm oil. The company is an active member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the non-profit organisation driving to make certified sustainable palm oil, such as BASFs, the norm.
MB is one of the RSPO’s supply-chain standards for traceable ‘Certified Sustainable Palm Oil’. Involving the mixture of conventional and sustainable palm oil throughout the supply chain, MB is designed to foster the physical flow of certified raw materials within the oleo derivatives supply chain.
BASF’s successful MB palm oil roll out demonstrates the company’s deep commitment to sustainability. The roll out forms part of a wider initiative from BASF to ensure its ingredients are ethically sourced. It has also gained COSMOS approval for a number of ingredients, allowing them to be used in certified natural and organic cosmetics.
Kelly Shenton, Business Manager - Personal Care Division, at Cornelius, said: “We are extremely proud to represent BASF as a principal.
“Its RSPO membership and successful sustainable palm oil rollout truly demonstrates the company’s total dedication to providing ethically sourced ingredients to the market, delivering tangible benefits to global communities. Not only this, but it’s a fantastic move to spark change in the wider industry.”
Ethical claims in new personal care products are increasing significantly, up by 7% between 2015 and 2017. Driven by a rise in ethical and environmental awareness amongst consumers, brands across the industry must work to evaluate and, where applicable, improve their sustainability credentials.
