Many textile finishers and manufacturers of non-wovens are aware that C8 fluorochemicals will not meet legislative requirements on PFOA in 2015. However, it may be less widely known one major supplier is already withdrawing C8 grades from the market, with another to follow in 2011. Therefore, availability of C8 grades is becoming limited and prices are rising. This means that reformulation based around new C6 grades will be necessary much earlier than originally thought, and many formulators are already redeveloping their products.
