Nymassorb BT113 - A Blend Of Benzotriazole UV Filters

Nymassorb BT-113 is a liquid blend of two benzotriazole derivatives acting as UV broad absorption filters, with PEG 300 acting as their dissolving/dispersing aid. It is temperature and solvent resistant, and has long been the UV protector of choice for solvent and water–borne coatings and especially for the protection of UV-sensitive substrates such as wood and plastics. It is the same composition as another "brand name" UV filter that is widely used but has been in short supply lately, so can be used as an alternative. Component A (50%, CAS 104810-48-2): β-3-(2-H-Benzotriazole-2-yl)-4-hydroxy-5-tert.butylphenyl]-propionic acid-poly(ethylene glycol) 300 ester
Component B (38%, CAS 104810-48-1): Bis{β-3-(2-H-Benzotriazole-2-yl)-4-hydroxy-5-tert.butylphenyl]-propionic acid}-poly(ethylene glycol) 300 ester
Component C (12%, CAS 25322-68-3) : Poly(ethylene glycol) 300, or PEG 300 For more information please contact Jane Tolfts (01279 714300, jane.tolfts@cornelius.co.uk)

CORNELIUS OFFERS NEW RHEOLOGY PRODUCT FROM ELEMENTIS SPECIALTIES RHEOLATE 299
Highly efficient and strongly shear thinning associative thickener
Possibly the fastest shear thinning rheology modifier of its type on the market RHEOLATE 299 Polyether polyurethane thickener for aqueous industrial and decorative, pigmented and clear coating systems RHEOLATE 299
is a highly efficient, 25% active, polyether polyurethane associative viscosity builder for the low- to mid-shear rate range. It provides strongly shear-thinning flow behaviour which makes it ideal for spray applications including sprayed latex emulsions, dispersions, water reducible clear-coats and high gloss pigmented systems. Thickening mechanism is pH independent
 APE- and organotin-free
 Highly efficient
 Imparts strongly shear thinning flow behaviour
 Excellent sag resistance and anti-settling behaviour
 Good flow and levelling
 Limited influence on water sensitivity and corrosion resistance
 Excellent optical properties in the final coating system Incorporation & Levels of Use
RHEOLATE 299 is a pourable liquid and can be incorporated at any point in the formulation of most systems. Liquid associative thickeners are usually post-added for convenience. RHEOLATE 299 is a highly efficient thickener and it is recommended to add the product slowly to the formulation and to allow adequate mixing time. The typical level of use of RHEOLATE 299 is between 0.1 and 1.5% (as delivered) by weight of the total formulation. Conclusion
RHEOLATE 299 efficiently provides strongly shear thinning flow behaviour to both pigmented and clear waterborne coating systems. This results in excellent application properties, sag resistance and storage stability. The associative thickener has limited influence on the water sensitivity and corrosion resistance of a coating. RHEOLATE 299 is the product of choice for applications like

Future Proof Your Textile Finishing Formulations With C6 Unidyne (TM) Fluorochemicals

Many textile finishers and manufacturers of non-wovens are aware that C8 fluorochemicals will not meet legislative requirements on PFOA in 2015. However, it may be less widely known one major supplier is already withdrawing C8 grades from the market, with another to follow in 2011. Therefore, availability of C8 grades is becoming limited and prices are rising. This means that reformulation based around new C6 grades will be necessary much earlier than originally thought, and many formulators are already redeveloping their products. Cornelius offers the Unidyne (TM) range of C6 fluorochemicals from Daikin which are optimised for a variety of applications, and offering the following benefits : - water repellency
- oil repellency
- stain release
- low curing temperature
- soft handling Not every fluorochemical supplier is able to offer C6 grades that perform well or are readily available, but the Unidyne (TM) C6 range offers class-leading performance with no availability problems. For more information please contact Jane Tolfts (01279 714340, jane.tolfts@cornelius.co.uk), or visit the Daikin website by clicking here].

As the new Chairman of the Chemical Business Association, Neville Prior (Cornelius CEO) said: "First of all, I am pleased and honoured to have been elected as CBA Chairman and I am determined that the next two years should be a period of progress and achievement for the Association."
"Simply stated, I suppose my overall aim is to maximise CBA's effectiveness in three key areas- to represent the interests of all our businesses in Whitehall, Westminster, and Brussels; to increase the effectiveness of our European Association, FECC; and to grow the Association in terms of its scope and membership throughout the chemical supply chain."
"I have already set in train pans to improve CBA's dialogue with relevant MPs and MEPs. We already have excellent working relationships at official level with government departments and regulators. I believe we need to build on this to ensure that key legislators also understand the industry's priorities and its current issues- particularly in the context of the costs and complexity of regulator compliance. " I want to set CBA on a path towards continuous growth-in terms of membership, the range and type of businesses it represents, and in the number of value-added services it provides."
" In every respect, CBA is open for business."

Member companies and their guests attending the CBA Annual Lunch contributed a grand total of UKP5,491 to the charity Headway which gives help and support to people affected by brain injury.
Neville Prior speaks at OCCA/BSCT Bosses Night!

Bosses Night is an annual event jointly hosted by two paint industry organisations (OCCA and BSCT), on which leaders from the coatings industry give a personal perspective on a relevant subject of their choice. The Chairman of Cornelius Group PLC, Neville Prior, was invited to speak for 2010 and delivered a lively and interesting presentation entitled Our Industry : Where Has It Been And Where Is It Going? Starting from prehistoric times, Neville took a look at coatings throughout the ages up to the modern era and then, after consultation with a crystal ball, spent some time speaking about what the coatings industry in the future might look like. The talk covered a wide ranging selection of issues, from technology to environmental issues to legislative concerns, with the latter, in particular, provoking a passionate debate among the audience! Neville's talk held the attention of a well packed venue for nearly an hour, and the number of post-presentation questions testified to the level of interest among the audience. At the end of the session, the BSCT President (and former Cornelius employee) Zara Cunliffe presented Neville with a certificate to mark the occasion. One delegate commented : I was at your presentation at the Birmingham meeting last Thursday , and ... I was very impressed with your presentation and wondered if you would mind me having a copy of the Power point ? Again ; thanks ... for an interesting and thought provoking presentation.

Cornelius Industrial Group exhibited at the BCF REACH Seminar held in Nottingham on February 23rd. The event was well intended by representatives from many coatings manufacturers, and several speakers gave informative presentations on REACH. The Cornelius stand explained our approach to REACH and highlighted products that offer benefits when working to standards being imposed by new and forthcoming legislation. These included : Drycoat (TM) - a new replacement drier for cobalt 10% from Rockwood Pigments
Rheolate 212 (TM) - a tin-free polyurethane rheology modifier from Elementis Specialties
Tintayd AQ (TM) - dual humectant tinting systems for water-borne architectural coatings, with superior compatibility and resistance to water-sensitivity, from Elementis Specialties
Bosig Chemie - high-solids and water-based alkyd resins, high-solids hydroxy acrylic resins
Shark PVB - recycled PVB, and water-based PVB dispersions One piece of news from the seminar of particular interest is that lead chromate (commonly used in pigments) has been selected as one of a small group of Substances of Very High Concern that will undergo further scrutiny. There is a real possibility that this could lead to these materials being effectively banned so users would be well advised to find alternatives. Solaplex (TM), from Rockwood Pigments and Cornelius, is an ideal replacement, especially where good heat or chemical resistance is required. Please contact Cornelius for more information on REACH, or any of the products mentioned here.
