Actives Update Stem-C-Guard the new concept for supporting the skin's stem cells In their environment stem cells are affected by external stress. Stem-C-Guard, evaluated on cells, explants and reconstructed epidermis, protects stem cells ensuring they mature correctly. Concept - keratinocyte stem cells are characterised by the following: Ability to self-renew
Adhesion to the basal membrane
Cellular Protection By improving skin radiance and skin complexion Stem-C-Guard is recommended for all facial skin care products designed for customers aged between 25 and 40 years of age. Menofit for menopausal skin During the menopause, the level of iron in the skin increases leading to matrix degradation and skin slackening. The change in hormonal activity which also occurs accentuates aging, causing increased skin dryness, thinning of the skin, uneven surface micro-relief and wrinkles. To counter these changes Silab developed Menofit, rich in purified artichoke leaf peptides. Menofit is recommended for all anti-aging products targeted at menopausal women.
The "Floggers Lunch" held by the CBA on the 4th May was a huge success, and firmly planted itself as the largest event in the UK's chemical sector. Almost 1200 people enjoyed an excellent lunch in the Great Room at the Grosvenor Hotel in London's Park Lane, listened to Tom O'Connor give a witty speech that consisted of many stories from his life in show business, and of course took advantage of the networking opportunities. There was a big emphasis on chemistry education, and the School's Award, sponsored by Cornelius and Coates Group was presented to Furzedown School from Wandsworth in London. As Chairman of CBA, Cornelius CEO, Dr Neville Prior, had the honour to make a speech.

London to Paris by our Technical Sales Representative Nick Brown

Cornelius Sales Rep Nick Brown has been confirmed a place in the London to Paris 24 Cycling Challenge on June 24th 2011, raising money for Scope in the process. Culminating under the Eiffel Tower after cycling through the night, this physically demanding event requires its participants to complete the 287 mile (462km) journey within 24 hours of departing Blackheath, London. Check out their route here: Raising Money for Scope
The charity which Nick is supporting is Scope. Scope is a charity that supports disabled people and their families, whose vision is a world where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. Scope receives no government funding and relies entirely on our donations to continue to do the superb work it does everyday. This video gives more of an insight into why we've signed up to the challenge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWUTIHeHGZU Especially during these economic times, Nick passionately feels it's important that people get behind these causes so that those most in need don't suffer. “Together with a University friend, I will be trying to raise UKP10,000 for this most worthy of causes. Myself and James have pledged UKP500 each to cover our costs to Scope for the event (ride organisation, accommodation etc), so donors can be safe in the knowledge that 100% of what they donate will go straight to Scope and helping improve children's lives, rather than me having a 'good' time! To hit this target would take a massive effort, but I'm confident we can do it.” Further info
Nick and James will be recounting their experiences and discussing other topics as the days count down to Paris via their blog, why not follow them here: http://teamwincycle.posterous.com/ You can sponsor Nick by visiting his website – www.justgiving.com/teamwincycle and click “sponsor me now” or alternatively contact him directly on 07557071271.

Silab Distributor Training Seminar Four members of the Cornelius team recently attended a week long training seminar in France at the headquarters of our personal care actives supplier Silab. Once we had made the journey from Stansted to Brive via Limoges, the week started off on Monday afternoon, with workshops on new materials Vitalayer and Oxygeskin. The following day, after a welcome address from Monsieur Cruchon, we enjoyed a tour of Silab's immaculate and ever-expanding production facility followed by a look around the R&D facility and testing suite. Silab have invested over €1 million in their R&D facility in the last year and this was evident as they demonstrated some new apparatus. In the afternoon we moved to the picturesque Chateau la Fleunie for sessions looking at the personal care market place & future trends and Silab's approach to biological material selection. Over the next two days we received lectures on the science behind the future trends which are emerging in skincare and how Silab have produced new actives to target these areas. Of course there was some time in the evening to enjoy the 2010 Beaujolais nouveau during a wine tasting event, a walking tour around the scenic town of Sarlat (very large door, see below), a rustic and very tasty dinner at a local farm house, and of course a beer at the Shamrock bar in Brive on the last night.. Silab invites distributors from all over the globe to the event so it also gave us a chance to network and gain an insight into other skincare markets. To conclude, an enjoyable and educational weeks training, many thanks to all our friends at Silab who hosted us during the week.

Formulation flexibility with RITAFACTANT

Formulation flexibility with RITAFACTANT In today’s ever changing cosmetic industry, the need for formulation flexibility is a must. We are seeing the use of Certified Organic and Ecocert ingredients finding their way into many of our products. The need to create totally Ecocert formulations is on the horizon. One of Cornelius suppliers, Rita Inc are now looking at new combinations to achieve formulations that are aesthetically and functionally acceptable. One area that we have been focusing our attention on is substituting traditional detergents used in Shampoos with Ecocert approved lactylates and Glucoside technologies. Rita have several combinations that have been successfully developed showing similar foam qualities and densities. Rita's goal with this research has been to formulate a product that not only performs as well as a traditional detergent system, but also aesthetically matches the technology. The RITAFACTANT Advantage: • They help to mitigate the irritation commonly associated with anionic sulfated surfactants; • Produced using natural renewable raw materials utilizing vegetable based materials for all natural claims; • Contain no Dioxane, EO or Nitrosamine; • Biodegradable; • Extremely mild, low irritation surfactants that can be used with or without anionic surfactants; • Eco-cert approved; • Can obtain high volume foam without sulfated surfactant. Theories as to the chemical mechanisms for viscosity development with Ritafactants: • Similar to SLS and NaCl there is a charge interaction with the Ritafactant system
• Cationic guars develop a strong charge density with the Rita lactylates and Glucosides
• Xanthan Gum had limited impact on the viscosity with lactylates and Glucoside systems
• Betaine blends and Eucarols provide thickening without additional polymeric thickeners
