BASF Cosmica colors deliver rich, transparent color to a wide range of cosmetics and personal care products. Because of their low luster and high transparency, they are especially well suited for "natural look" formulations. Cosmica colors contain absorption pigments such as iron blue, iron oxide and carmine, precipitated on a mica substrate; only a relatively modest amount of colorant is needed on the mica to gain good color intensity. Cosmica colorants also minimize color bleed and the grinding and deagglomerating problems often encountered with iron blue and carmine. And because mica is easily dispersed in both aqueous and non-aqueous systems, Cosmica colors are easily incorporated into cosmetic formulations using low shear techniques.
