Up until the 1970's the paint industry relied heavily on ammonia as a buffer for water base coatings. AMP-95™ was introduced to the market as a more evolved amino alcohol which, although significantly more expensive than ammonia, brought many benefits that ended up reducing the overall cost especially in the lower PVC formulations. For almost 40 years ANGUS Chemical Company kept the AMP-95™ monopoly undisputed in the water base coatings arena. Other amino alcohol manufacturers didn't have either the manufacturing or the application expertise to challenge it. The new SPOTŪ 8000 line of amino alcohols was developed to take the industry a step further in the optimization of its formulations. It gathers the benefits that other amino alcohols can bring, and solves some of the disadvantages of AMP-95™. One of the problems with AMP-95™ is the fact that it is a solid product diluted in water. Once the water evaporates AMP-95™ solidifies again and remains as part of the resin x pigment matrix, reducing its mechanical resistance.
